Golden Valley News

The Kindergarten faculty of Golden Valley invite you to a Festival Renewal Meeting on Monday, October 23rd from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the Orchard School MP Room.  Since the first impulse of the two campuses came to be what we now know as the Orchard and River Schools of Golden Valley nearly 5 years ago, those holding the festival life have been working to find resonance and placement with each school community

Ames Barbara 00360 1Welcome back to school! River experienced a  fabulous Rose Ceremony. As Redwood’s class  teacher since first grade, I was emotionally moved when Cedar and Redwood students joined as pairs to give an Olive Tree student a rose. The white rose, a symbol of purity, brings back the memory of my students when they were first graders. They were darling of course!  I remember the challenge of forming a new class. The first-grade day was long and exhausting for both students and me! We worked hard every day and still had fun on our journey. Each year every individual, including me, transformed. This is the gift of Waldorf education. I look back fondly on my memories of children, parents, peers, colleagues and administrators. In turn, I look enthusiastically at the challenges and changes to come this year. As a school community, we have much to celebrate as we head back to school.

On the first Saturday in May, two eighth grade classes not only marked the arrival of spring by dressing in white, weaving flower headdresses, and dancing with bright ribbons around a maypole, but also marked and celebrated their long-standing community here at Golden Valley River School. Usually there is just one maypole and one eighth grade class dancing.  However, this year, the River School was fortunate to have two maypoles, one for each graduating eighth grade class, to celebrate, dance, and weave around in front of the school’s community.
