Golden Valley News

We are excited to announce that November 29th kicks off our exciting new program: “Week of Giving.”

Our Week of Giving kicks off with the nationally celebrated “Giving Tuesday.” This special day is in response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a day to celebrate nonprofit organizations by donating to your favorite causes. During this season of gratitude, it's important to look past consumerism and shed light on all the great charity work that takes place in our communities.

Golden Valley Charter Schools will host a town hall meeting on Wednesday, September 28th from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the River School multi-purpose room. Come and meet our new Executive Director, Caleb J. Buckley, EdD, new Business Manager, Lynne Ashcraft, and principals from each school. We will begin the evening with light refreshments, a welcome from Dr. Buckley and then open a forum for questions from the community. If you are unable to attend and would like to send questions, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Mrs. Keyser Petty has served the Golden Valley community in many ways: as class parent for her son (now a graduate of Golden Valley), as Golden Valley Educational Foundation (GVEF) president, office sub, and most recently as the Handwork Specialist for 5th thru 8th grade. She learned everything she knows about Handwork from her Mom-mom (grandmother), and she thanks her for instilling a love all things handwork!

On the evening of April 26th during the San Juan Unified School District Board meeting, fifth graders Esther Sullivan and Wyatt Kerr stood up to communicate the importance of our May Day Festival and to personally invite members of the board. Third graders Seneca Ikemire and Grace Kerr and first grader Kusha Hosseinion stood up as well.

Each of these students presented handmade invitations for each board member.  Golden Valley Orchard School teachers Ms. Sullivan, Ms. Cortez, and Ms. Hidden coordinated the making of the student invitations.
