Letter from the Principal

Ames Barbara 00360 1Dear parents and community members,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website. I hope you find answers to your inquiries. I honor you for your curiosity and openness. Both are virtues we work to instill in our students over the course of their journey in kindergarten and the grades.

Waldorf education provides children with a protected learning environment where they may remain children for as long as possible. Media usage is strongly discouraged in all grades but particularly in the lower grades in order to allow the imagination to develop and capacities for attention and comprehension to grow and deepen.

Children sing, draw, play recorders and other musical instruments, paint, dance, garden and learn handwork skills. Alongside academics the arts are integrated daily as part of each child’s education. The arts are more than something “extra” at Golden Valley, because children benefit intellectually, emotionally and physically.  Waldorf is an education for the whole child from the inside out.

If you are interested in knowing more about Waldorf, I encourage you to come to a parent information meeting.  If you are new to our school, please attend every parent evening offered by your class teacher and every parent education offering that is appropriate for your needs. Learning never stops with Waldorf education; learning becomes a life-long endeavor.

I look forward to the opportunity to meet up with anyone who will introduce themselves.  I take pride in River School and feel our faculty and staff are highly qualified, hard-working and genuinely authentic in their commitment to our school and your children.
